Women’s Basketball Drops Game with Timberwolves

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lexie Khon scored 18 points, but Lake Superior State women's basketball lost to Northwood 69-47 on Saturday afternoon at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Khon, a junior forward, tallied a team-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and made two three-pointers in 31 minutes played. She has scored in double figures in six of Lake Superior State's (3-6, 0-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference)) nine games this season.

The Lakers were outscored 14-10 in the first quarter. LSSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Northwood (3-7, 1-3 GLIAC) went on a 14-4 run to close out the quarter. The Lakers then outscored the Timberwolves 23-22 in the second quarter to make the score 36-33 in favor of Northwood at the half. After halftime, the Lakers were outscored 33-14 over the remainder of the game, including 21-6 in the fourth quarter, as the Lakers lost 69-47.

Lake Superior State shot 37.3 percent from the field and 16.7 percent on three-point shots, while Northwood shot 47.2 percent overall and 42.1 percent on three-pointers.

The Lakers made 5-of-5 free throw attempts, while the Timberwolves converted 11-of-14.

Lake Superior State is back in action against Algoma University on Friday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The start time is slated for 1 p.m.
