SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball faces a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents in its first two home games of the season this week.
Lake Superior State (3-4, 0-2 GLIAC) faces Saginaw Valley State (0-5, 0-2 GLIAC) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Northwood (2-6, 0-2 GLIAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Last Time on the Court
The Lakers went 0-2 in GLIAC play last week as they lost 107-34 at No. 1 Ashland on Thursday in Ashland, Ohio and 73-59 at Wayne State on Saturday in Detroit.
Best Start Since 2014-15
With their 3-4 start to the season, Lake Superior State is off to its best start to a season since 2014-15 when the Lakers were also 3-4 through seven games.

Lake Superior State is 0-2 in GLIAC play this season. The Lakers are tied for fifth place in the GLIAC North Division standings with Purdue Northwest.

Junior guard Claire Radtke was named the GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week on Nov. 19. Radtke averaged 15.5 points per game on 60 percent shooting, including 70 percent on three-point shots, while averaging four rebounds and one steal as the Lakers defeated Ohio Valley (78-48) and Alderson Broaddus (77-64) on Nov. 15 and Nov. 17, respectively.

Scouting Saginaw Valley State
The Cardinals (0-5, 0-2 GLIAC) lost their most recent game to Northern Michigan 66-52 at home on Saturday.
Saginaw Valley State is scoring 63.2 points per game, while allowing 71.2 points per game. The Cardinals are shooting 39.0 percent on the season and 38.1 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 40.9 percent, including 32.6 percent from behind the arc.
Freshman guard Maddie Barrie is the Cardinals' leading scorer this season. She is averaging 18.6 points per game and 6.8 made three-pointers per contest.
Last season, the Lakers went 0-2 against the Cardinals, including a 63-60 loss at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Scouting Northwood
The Timberwolves (2-6, 0-2 GLIAC), who play at Ferris State on Thursday before facing the Lakers on Saturday, are coming off a 78-68 loss to Michigan Tech at home.
Northwood is scoring 60.0 points per game, while allowing 67.6 points per game. The Timberwolves are shooting 35.3 percent on the season, including 28.6 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 45.8 percent and 35.5 percent from behind the arc.
The Timberwolves are led in scoring by sophomore guard Ellie Taylor, who is averaging 12.5 points per game.
Last season, the Lakers lost both their games to the Timberwolves, including a 77-58 home loss.

The Lakers return to action against Algoma University inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.
