Women’s Basketball Set for Road Games at Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball continues its 2018-19 season this weekend with road games against Ohio Valley University and Alderson Broaddus University.

Lake Superior State (1-1) faces Ohio Valley (0-2) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Vienna, West Virginia before playing Alderson Broaddus (0-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Philippi, West Virginia.

Last Time on the Court:

The Lakers started the season with a 95-58 loss in a neutral-site game against Walsh University on Friday, before rebounding to defeat Malone University 62-56 in a neutral-site game for their first win of the season on Saturday. Both games were part of the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover. The Lakers' game against Walsh was played at Malone's Osborne Hall in Canton, Ohio., while the game against Malone was contested at Walsh's Cecchini Center in North Canton, Ohio.

Comeback Win:

Lake Superior State trailed 25-19 after one quarter of play against Malone on Saturday, but the Lakers outscored the Pioneers in each of the final three quarters to complete the 62-56 come-from-behind victory. The Lake State defense limited Malone to 22-of-66 (33.3 percent) shooting, including 8-of-35 (22.9 percent) on three-point shots, in the win. The Lakers shot 34-of-53 (45.3 percent) from the field, including 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from behind the three-point line.

First Victory:

With their win over Malone on Saturday, the Lakers improved to 1-1 on the season. With the win, it is the first time the Lakers have started a season with a 1-1 record or better since 2014-15 when they started the season 2-0 with 71-58 and 49-44 wins over McKendree University and the University of Illinois Springfield, respectively.    

Double Figures:

In their comeback victory over Malone, junior forward Lexie Khon led the Lakers with 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt also reached double figures in points (17) on 5-of-7 shooting, including a 3-of-4 performance on three-point shots.

Scouting Ohio Valley University:

Ohio Valley University has started the season with back-to-back losses. The Fighting Scots lost to Clarion University 58-48 and No. 5 Indiana University of Pennsylvania 101-62 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both games were played in Indiana, Pennsylvania as part of the PSAC/GMAC Challenge, which was held at IUP.  

Ohio Valley, which is shooting 38.0 percent from the field and 28.9 percent on three-point shots, is led in scoring by Kyrin Baklund, who is averaging 12.0 points per game on 38.1 percent shooting.

Scouting Alderson Broaddus University:

Alderson Broaddus has yet to win this season – losing to fifth-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania 95-50 on Saturday and to Clarion University 53-48 on Sunday as part of the PSAC/GMAC Challenge at IUP.

Alderson Broaduss enters the week shooting 28.3 percent from the field, while its opponents are shooting 41.7 percent.

First Home Game:

The Lakers will play their first regular-season home game against Saginaw Valley State University on Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
