Women’s Basketball Completes Comeback Win Over Malone

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Lake Superior State women's basketball overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Malone University 62-56 for its first win of the season in a nonconference neutral-site game played at Walsh University's Cecchini Center on Saturday.

Lake Superior State (1-1) fell behind Malone (0-2) 25-19 in the first quarter, However, the Lakers bounced back to outscore the Pioneers in each of the three remaining quarters — 14-10 in the second, 11-6 in the third and 18-15 in the fourth. The Laker deficit was down to two points at halftime (35-33) and they took the lead in the third quarter. Lake State held off the Pioneers in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

As a team, the Lakers shot 34-of-53 (45.3 percent) from the field, including 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from behind the three-point line. Lake Superior State limited Malone to a 22-of-66 (33.3 percent) shooting performance, including 8-of-35 (22.9 percent) on three-point shots. 

Lexie Khon and Sadie DeWildt led the Laker offense with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Khon shot 9-of-17 from the field and went 1-of-2 from behind the arc. Dewildt shot 5-of-7 overall, including 3-of-4 on three-point shots, and 4-of-7 from the free-throw line. Four other Lakers scored at least five points in the game. 

Robin Campbell scored a game-high 27 points for the Pioneers. She was the only Pioneer to garner double figures in points. 

The Lakers return to action for a nonconference game at Ohio Valley University at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Vienna, W.Va. The Lakers will play their first regular-season home game against Saginaw Valley State University on Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
