Women's basketball tips off season, volleyball on the road this weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – This weekend, the Lake Superior State women's basketball and volleyball teams are in action on the road.  The volleyball team travels to Northwood and Ferris State to take on the Timberwolves and Bulldogs, while women's basketball starts their season with two exhibition matches against Western Michigan and Michigan State.

The Laker women's basketball team will tip off their season by playing in two exhibition matches against DI opponents on the road.  The Lakers will take on Western Michigan on Friday, November 3rd and Michigan State on Sunday, November 5th.  Sophomores Claire Radtke and Lexie Khon, who were starters last season as freshmen, return to lead the Lakers, who were picked to finish 5th in the GLIAC North Division.  Tip off against the Broncos is at 7 p.m. on Friday in Kalamazoo, while the Lakers will start against the Spartans at 2 p.m.

Also in action this weekend is the volleyball team, who played their final home matches of the 2017 season last week.  After falling 3-0 to Northern Michigan and 3-1 to Michigan Tech, the Lakers (3-19, 1-12 GLIAC) will face Northwood on Friday, before taking on Ferris State on Saturday.  Following their match against Michigan Tech, Laker seniors Justice Kjolhede, Elizabeth Ballor, Madison Castle, Brooke Williams, Jen Marren and Karlee Weissendwere honored on the court as a part of Senior Day.  First serve against the Timberwolves (12-11, 4-8 GLIAC) is at 7 p.m., while the match against the Bulldogs (17-6, 10-2 GLIAC) will start at 3 p.m. – an hour later than the typical 2 p.m. Saturday start time.
