U.P. Sports Hall of Fame induction April 25


ESCANABA - Former Lake Superior State All-America forward Alice (Duesing) Nightingale ('03) will be inducted into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame at the Danforth Place in Escanaba on April 25.

Tickets for the induction banquet are $20 and available from Bill Crawford (635-2335, bcrawford@lssu.edu) and Fred DeVuono (635-5380). The 38th annual banquet begins at 6 p.m.

Nightingale, who is originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., is LSSU's all-time leading scorer with 1,933 points and the top collegiate scorer among women's basketball players from the U.P. She was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and GLIAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2003. In 2004, she was a recipient of the NCAA's Today's Top VIII Award, which is the highest honor bestowed on a student-athlete.

Nightingale also scored 1,482 career points and earn U.P. Player of the Year honors for Sault Area High School. She and her husband, Jason, attended graduate school at the University of Notre Dame after earning engineering degrees at LSSU. They both teach and coach at Culver Academy.

Duane Tirschel is also among the 10 inductees in the 2009 class. His daughter, Sue, played tennis at LSSU.
