Laker Cross Country Competes at Midwest Regional

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's cross country programs competed at the 2023 Midwest Regional meet on Saturday.

 

Men

Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) led the way for the Lakers in the men's 10k with a personal best time of 34:01.8. His brother Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) was the next to finish for the Lakers, crossing the finish line with a time of 36:56.0 which was also a new personal record. Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.) would then finish third amongst his teammates with a time of 35:54.6 with Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.) and Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.) not far behind, completing the race with respective times of 36:11.7 and 36:21.2, with Bowman's time being a new personal best. Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) and Skylar Wiliams rounded out the lineup for the men's team with personal records and respective times of 37:16.3 and 38:19.6.

 

Women

Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) was the first to cross the finish line among her teammates in the women's 6k with a time of 24:38.2 with redshirt freshman Julie Sheehy (Walkerville, Mich.) not far behind, crossing the finish line at the 24:47.7 mark. True freshman Nora Smoes (Reed City, Mich.) would then complete the race with a time of 25:03.0. Junior Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) was the next to finish for the Lakers with a time of 25:20.9, and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) would then finish the race 12 seconds later. Sarah McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) and Olivia Peter (Unionville, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the Lakers with respective times of 27:17.0 and 26:18.3 with each member of the women's team that competed at the meet set a new personal best 6k time as a result of their efforts.
