David Mitter Qualifies for NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's cross country student-athlete David Mitter qualified for an at-large bid for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships following his performance at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championships last weekend. The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Saint Leo, Fla. at The Abbey Course. 

Mitter placed 12th overall in last weekend's regional championship with a time of 30:46.4 in the 10k distance, setting a new personal record in the race. Mitter received All-Region accolades with his 12th place finish last weekend. The Lake Superior State senior took over a minute off his previous personal record in the 10k (31:56.6)

It marks the second time in Mitter's collegiate career that he will compete in the NCAA Division II Championships as he also qualified as a sophomore. As a sophomore, Mitter earned an at-large bid into the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with an eighth-place finish at the 2018 NCAA DIvision II Midwest Region Championships, as he finished with a time of 31:56.6 in the 10k race. Mitter was the first LSSU men's cross country runner to compete in the national championship since the 1993 season.

The men's championship race, which will be hosted by Saint Leo University and Tampa Bay Sports Commission, will take place at 9:45 a.m. EST on Nov. 20. A live webstream of the championships will be available on NCAA.com.
