SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State University cross country has released its schedule for the 2019 season.

The LSSU men's and women's cross country teams begin their 2019 campaigns with meets on three consecutive weekends. They start competition at the Northwood XC Invitational, hosted by Northwood University on Sept. 7. The Lakers then head to Michigan State to compete in the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 13, followed by the Second Annual Warrior Challenge at Wayne State University on Sept. 21. The Lakers then have two weeks off from competition, before competing in their final regular-season meet – the Fifth Annual Conference Crossover Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Lewis University, on Oct. 12.

Postseason competition commences with the 2019 GLIAC Cross Country Championships at Purdue University Northwest on Oct. 26. The NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships are being held at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana on Nov. 9, followed by the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, California on Nov. 23.

Rob Gallinger is entering his entering his third year as head coach of the Lake Superior State University cross country and track and field teams. Last season, David Mitter had a breakout sophomore season that culminated with an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mitter placed 121st out of 261 finishers and was the first LSSU cross country runner to compete at cross country nationals since 1993, when Gary Loubert placed 50th.
