Mitter Qualifies for 2018 NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Championships

Sophomore David Mitter qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division II Men?s Cross Country National Championships.

INDIANAPOLIS —David Mitter has qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championships, announced by the selection committee on Monday evening.

Mitter, a sophomore from Howell, Michigan who was selected as one of 27 individual qualifiers for the national championships, earned the selection by finishing eighth out of 217 competitors in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Hayden Park in Hillsdale, Michigan. Mitter ran a 10K personal best time of 31:56.6 as he led the Lakers to a 20th-place finish out of 32 teams. His previous personal best in the 10K was 33:42.3, which he ran at last year's regional. 

Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.  

The championships will be held Dec. 1 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at Bob O'Conner Golf Course at Schenley Park. Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and SportsPITTSBURGH will serve as hosts. The men's race will begin at 11 a.m.
