Laker Men's Tennis Sweep the Panthers in Final Home Match

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's tennis team (7-4, 3-1 GLIAC) did not drop a single set on their way to a dominant 7-0 sweep over the visiting Davenport Panthers (11-12, 1-4 GLIAC) on Saturday.

The Lakers got off to a hot start in doubles play, holding the Panthers to no more than two games in each of the three matches. Driss Sedrati (Casablanca, Morocco) and Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) wasted no time on their way to a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, and the duo of Lluc Limongi Ollers (Mallorca, Spain) and Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) were not far behind, closing out a dominant 6-1 performance in the No. 3 doubles match to secure the 1-0 advantage for LSSU. Maxence Hamon (Montreal, Que.) and Lezan Koyuncu (Cologne, Germany) would then complete the sweep of doubles play by claiming the top matchup by a final score of 6-2.

LSSU carried their momentum into singles play, taking all six matchups in straight sets. Stefan Andrei (Galati, Romania) raced ahead to a 6-1, 6-4 showing at the No. 2 spot, and Hamon extended the lead to 3-0 with an emphatic 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles match. Sedrati secured the victory for his team, winning 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match, and Limongi continued the hot streak with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the battle of number ones. Fraile and Velasco rounded out the lineup with respective victories of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-3 to complete the 7-0 sweep on the day. 

The Lakers return to action on Friday, April 19 when they travel to face Grand Valley State with the first serve scheduled for 12 p.m.
