Laker Men's Tennis Face First Setback of Spring Break Trip Against Augusta

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Lake Superior State University men's tennis program (4-3) fell to the Augusta Jaguars (10-2) by a final score of 7-0 on Tuesday.

The Jaguars struck first in doubles play with a 6-2 victory in the top doubles match, but Lluc Limongi Ollers (Mallorca, Spain) and Xavier Vicent Navarro (Cocentaina, Spain) answered right back with a 6-2 win of their own at the No. 3 doubles spot. However, despite a strong battle from Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) and Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain), Augusta would ultimately win the No. 2 doubles match 6-4 to take the early 1-0 advantage.

The Jaguars would carry their momentum into singles play, taking all six matches. However, despite the losses, Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.), Fraile, and Vicent were all able to give their opponents all they could handle in what turned out to be highly competitive matches with all three requiring a third set super-tiebreaker in order to decide a winner.

The Lakers will look to bounce back on Thursday, March 9 when they face the Barton Bulldogs with the first serve scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
