Osmond Named GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week After Upsetting No. 6 Ranked Player in the Nation

BAY CITY, Mich. – Lake Superior State University senior Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.) has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Osmond, came away with one of the most impressive victories of his Laker career in a match against the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday, Feb. 2 in which he upset the No. 6 ranked player in NCAA Division II, Ruben Fonga, in the No. 1 singles match in three sets by a final score of 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. He had spent the previous season shifting between the No. 4 and 5 singles spots before opening this year in the spotlight at the top position.

Fonga was the runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament in the fall and tied for a fifth place finish at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga.

This marks the first GLIAC weekly honors of Osmond's career, and he is the first LSSU Laker to be named the GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week since Jake Prime on April 10, 2018.
