SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University Men's and Women's Tennis teams will be back on the road this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches against Wayne State and Northwood. The Lakers will take on the Wayne State Warriors on Friday, April 8 in Detroit, Mich. with the men's team playing at 10:00 a.m. and the women's team following at 3:00 p.m. LSSU will close out the weekend against the Timberwolves on Saturday, April 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.

The Laker men's team is looking for their first conference win of the season as the team has dropped both conference matches through the early stages of the season. After a weekend off, the Lakers return to competition following a pair of losses to Grand Valley State and Ferris State on the road. This weekend, the Lakers will look for a strong showing from No. 1 singles player Juho Kantola against a pair of conference rivals.

Wayne State enters the weekend as the ninth-ranked team in the country with a 14-4 overall record and a 3-0 mark in conference play. The Timberwolves have recorded a 6-10 record this season which includes a 1-1 mark in GLIAC matches.

The Laker women's team will look to build off of last Saturday's 7-0 win over Saginaw Valley State University against the Warriors and Timberwolves this weekend. Lake Superior State opened the match against the Cardinals winning all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The Lakers followed by clinching all six singles matches in two sets to secure the GLIAC victory. No. 1 singles player Nadege Koua won her match by scores of 6-1 and 6-3 to lead the team while freshman Maddie Whip, playing in her first home conference match, also won her match in decisive fashion (6-0, 6-2).

The Warriors have totaled an 8-6 overall record this season and a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play while the Timberwolves have recorded a 10-5 overall record which also includes a 3-0 mark in GLIAC competition.
