Preview: Men's Tennis Continues Conference Play against Northwood and Wayne State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's tennis team will return to competition this weekend as the team travels to Midland, Mich. to take on the Northwood University Timberwolves in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. and returns home to play the Wayne State Warriors on Monday, April 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Activity Center in the Norris Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The men's tennis team has not played a match since Saturday, March 20 against the Davenport Panthers as COVID-19 protocols went into effect within the Laker tennis program.

Through the first four matches of the season, the Lakers hold a 0-4 overall record and an 0-2 record in conference play.

The Lakers are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Panthers as the team won two singles sets against Davenport with No. 2 Xavier Vicent Navarro and No. 6 Seth Pinnoo each recording victories. The remaining four Lakers (No. 1 Juho Kantola, No. 3 Krishan Taneja, No.4 Ali Sahibzada, and No. 5 Harris Irfan Ul Haq) each lost in three sets as the competition with the Panthers was tightly contested.

Lake Superior State's first opponent of the week will be the Northwood Timberwolves, who have compiled a 1-11 overall record through a busy spring schedule. The Timberwolves last competed against the Purdue Northwest Pride on April 3, and fell by a score of 5-2.

The Lakers will then take on the Wayne State Warriors in the team's second conference match-up of the weekend. The Warriors have totaled a 2-6 overall record through the spring season with the team's most recent match ending in a 7-0 victory over the Davenport University Panthers.
