Lakers to Face Northwood in 2019 GLIAC Men’s Tennis Tournament

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.  Lake Superior State men's tennis is scheduled to face Northwood in the first round of the 2019 GLIAC Tournament at 6:45 p.m. on Friday at Greater Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan. 

Lake Superior State (6-7, 4-4 GLIAC), which is making its first appearance in the GLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament since the 2009-10 season, features junior captain Joe Gilman at No. 1 singles. Gilman has a 5-3 singles record in GLIAC play this season.

In their latest matches, the Lakers defeated Ashland 5-2 in a home match on April 13 to clinch a spot in the playoffs. LSSU dropped its regular-season finale with 25th-ranked Wayne State 7-0 on April 14 at Arbuckle Student Activity Center.

Northwood (11-8, 5-3 GLIAC) concluded its regular-season schedule with a 6-1 loss at Wayne State on April 17. Northwood then won 5-2 in a nonconference match at Hillsdale on April 19.

Earlier this season, the Lakers suffered a 5-2 setback at Northwood on March 22. The Lakers took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Freshman Krishan Taneja was the lone Laker to win in singles – claiming the No. 3 match 6-2, 7-5.

The winner of the match between Lake Superior State and Northwood will move on to face top-seeded Wayne State, while the loser will face the loser of No. 3-seeded Ferris State and No. 6-seeded Ashland in the 5th-Place Match. Both of those matches will be contested at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
