Men’s Tennis Set to Host Michigan Tech in GLIAC Play

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State men's tennis continues Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Upper Peninsula rival Michigan Tech on Saturday at 10 a.m. EDT inside the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. 

Lake Superior State (3-5, 1-2 GLIAC) went 1-2 last week with the win coming against Grand Valley State at home on Saturday. The last time Lake Superior State had defeated Grand Valley State was March 21, 2010. The top individual for Lake Superior State was junior Joe Gilman, who finished the week with a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles. The No. 3 doubles pairing of freshman Ali Sahibzada and freshman Harris Irfan ul Haq led the team with the most wins in doubles as they went a perfect 3-0. 

For his performance, Gilman was named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.

Michigan Tech 2-8 (0-3 GLIAC) is on a four-match losing streak, including 7-0 home losses to Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Northwood on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Last season, Lake Superior State defeated Michigan Tech 7-2 in Houghton, Michigan.
