Men's Tennis Defeated by Ferris State 4-3

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State men's tennis was defeated by Ferris State 4-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Sunday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.

Ferris State won the doubles point 4-8 (2-0 GLIAC). At No. 1 doubles, junior Joe Gilman and freshman Krishan Taneja lost 6-4, at No. 2 doubles, senior Luis Valderrama and sophomore Diego Penz lost 6-3, and at No. 3 doubles, freshman duo, Harris Irfan ul Haq and Ali Sahibzada won 6-3. 

The Lakers 3-5 (1-2 GLIAC) looked to pick up some momentum against the Bulldogs in singles play with Gilman picking up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Sahibzada fell 6-4, 7-5 and at No. 3 singles, Taneja lost 6-4, 6-2. Valderrama picked up a win at No. 4 singles with a score of 6-3, 7-6(7-1). At No. 5 singles was Penz, who fell 6-4, 6-4. Rounding out the lineup was Irfan ul Haq, who wasted no time in picking up the victory as he won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. 

Lake Superior State returns to the court next weekend as the Lakers host Upper Peninsula rival Michigan Tech 2-8 (0-3 GLIAC) on Saturday at 10 a.m. EDT at Arbuckle Student Activity Center.
