Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to Findlay 6-1

FINDLAY, Ohio - The men and women tennis teams traveled down to Findlay, Ohio, to begin their spring break trip as they played the first of their five road matches against Findlay University on Saturday. Both teams fell to the Oilers 6-1. 

On the women's side, at No. 1 doubles, senior Tara Harvey and freshman Nadege Koua lost 6-3, sophomore AlexiAnn Drouin and freshman Keegan Malpass evened up the doubles score with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles pairing of senior Kirsten Malpass and senior Allison Grandfield lost 6-3. 

With the Lakers down one point heading into singles, the women's team tried to battle back, but couldn't complete the comeback. Drouin, at No. 1 singles, won in a close three-set tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. At No. 2 singles, Koua lost 7-5, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles, Harvey lost 6-1, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Keegan Malpass lost 6-2, 6-1 and at No. 5 singles, Kirsten Malpass lost 6-2, 6-0. Finishing out the lineup was Grandfield at No. 6 singles and she lost 6-0, 6-2. 

On the men's side, at No. 1 doubles, senior Luis Valderrama and sophomore Diego Penz lost 6-1, at No. 2, freshman Harris Irfan ul Haq and freshman Krishan Taneja lost 6-1 and junior Joe Gilman and sophomore Seth Pinnoo picked up the win at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-3.

At No. 1 singles, Gilman lost in a close two-set battle, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Ali Sahibzada fell at No. 2 with a score of 6-2, 6-3 and at No. 3, Taneja lost in a three-set match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Valderrama, the team captain, battled at No. 4 singles to a three-set match, but fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Penz won at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-3, and Irfan ul Haq lost in another close match, 7-6 (7), 3-6, 10-8.

The Lakers are back in action as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to play in a nonconference match against Tiffin University on Monday at 5 p.m. EST
