Laker Hockey Face Setback as Tommies Force Game Three

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (16-19-1) fell to the Tommies of St. Thomas (15-19-2) in game 2 of the CCHA Mason Cup Playoff Quarterfinals, tying the series at 1-1 on Saturday.

The Tommies opened up the scoring with a goal from Liam Malmquist at the 5:46 mark of the opening period, and Lucas Wahlin doubled up the St. Thomas lead less than five minutes later.

St. Thomas would then go up 3-0 early in the second period, but at the 12:18 mark, Timo Bakos (Augusburg, Germany) slotted home his second goal in as many days after scooping up the loose puck off of his own miss and sending it right back on net.  However, the Tommies managed to go back up by 3 with five minutes to play in the period after scoring in the final moments of a power play opportunity.

Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) deflected the puck past St. Thomas goaltender Aaron Trotter to cut the lead in half midway through the third period, but it would ultimately not be enough as the Tommies held on to force a decisive game 3 on Sunday.

The Lakers will face St. Thomas for one final time this season in game 3 of the series on Sunday, March 10 with puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m. Central Standard Time.
