PREVIEW: Laker Hockey Set to Host Bowling Green

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (5-5-0, 2-2-0 CCHA) is set to host the Bowling Green (BGSU) Falcons (2-8-0, 0-2-0 CCHA) in a weekend series in Taffy Abel Arena.

  • The Falcons lead the all-time series between the two programs 91-79-14 in the battle between two of the longest tenured members of the original CCHA.
  • Entering the weekend, the Lakers sit at fourth in the CCHA standings at six points with the only teams ahead having played more league games so far this season while the Falcons are the lone CCHA program yet to earn a point in the conference standings.
  • The Falcons were the victors of all four games last season, but Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) came away with three goals in the two-game series on the road in January.
  • Both teams enter the series looking to bounce back after a pair of losses with the Falcons losing both contests to St. Thomas while the Lakers narrowly fell in the final moments of both games at Northern Michigan.
  • LSSU enters the series with the 11th ranked power play unit in the nation at 24.1 percent (1st in CCHA), and they boast the CCHA's top penalty kill, stopping 84.8 percent of their opponent's power play opportunities.
  • Sophomore Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) enters the weekend with the top +/- rating in the CCHA at +9 (tied for 13th in NCAA).
  • Ryan O'Hara enters the weekend leading Bowling Green in scoring with eight points (5G, 3A) with O'Hara credited with more shots on goal (41) this season than all but three CCHA skaters.
  • Laker goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) enters the series with the most saves per game (29.2) in the CCHA, and his save percentage of .907 ranks fourth in the league.
  • Senior Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) is currently leading the CCHA in scoring with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists, and he has paired up with Milburn and Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) to form the most productive line in the CCHA with 30 combined points.
  • Westcott's nine goals entering the weekend are tied for the second most in the nation.
  • Sophomore Milburn capped off a six-game point streak after scoring the game-winner in overtime on Nov. 3 against Bemidji State.
  • Roy enters the weekend riding a career-high six-game point streak.
