Herrington Named CCHA Rookie of the Week After Scoring First Career Goal

DEEPHAVEN, Minn. - Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey freshman John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Rookie of the Week after the Lakers' opening weekend at No. 9 Michigan State, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Herrington shined for the Lakers in his first series as a collegiate hockey player, scoring his first career goal after swatting the puck past Spartan goaltender Trey Augustine out of the air off of a deflection, and he nearly had his second a few minutes later after creating a 3-on-one opportunity had it not been for an improbable save by Augustine reaching all the way back to the far side of his net.

Herrington and the Lakers return to action on Friday, Oct. 13 for their home-opener against Alaska Anchorage as part of Great Lake State Weekend with the first puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
