Laker Hockey Welcomes Jack Blanchett

Laker Hockey Welcomes Jack Blanchett

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program welcomes Jack Blanchett to the team as part of the 2023 recruiting class.

Blanchett, a native of Monroe, Mich. and graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School, would go on to begin his junior hockey career with the Wichita Falls Warriors (now Oklahoma Warriors) of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). In his first season with the program, the defenseman was able to contribute a modest six assists in 42 games with the club, but he was able to improve significantly in the following year. In his second season with the franchise, he would continue to flash his potential with 12 points (5G, 7A) through the first half of the season, gathering the attention of other clubs around the league.

Then, in January 2022, the Maryland Black Bears would pull the trigger, acquiring Blanchett via trade where he would finish the season alongside fellow Laker newcomer Branden Piku. Blanchett was able to notch ten more points (6G, 4A) in his final 29 games of the season for a total of 22 points (11G, 11A) on the year. His contributions on the ice saw him finish with a +12 +/- after being traded to Maryland.

Blanchett would then take his talents to Western Canada for his final season of junior hockey after signing with the Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he would see himself take yet another massive leap in production. In 50 games with the River Kings, Blanchett would go on to be the top goal-scoring defenseman in the BCHL with 15, and his seven power play goals ranked second among BCHL defensemen.

Blanchett and the Lakers are set to kick off the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Michigan State.
