Laker Hockey Welcomes John Herrington

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program welcomes John Herrington (Beacher's Hope, B.C.) to the team as part of the 2023 recruiting class.

Herrington, a native of Beacher's Hope, B.C., a town with a population of just over 1,000 people, proved to be a championship-caliber player early on in his hockey career after going on to win the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) U18 title with the Cariboo Cougars U18 AAA program in 2019. He would then take his talents to the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) for three years of junior hockey.

Herrington was able to put together a solid stat line of 6-8-14 in 20 games in his first full season with the team, but he would take his game to a whole new level in the 2021-22 season, averaging a point per contest throughout the season for a total of 54 (24G, 30A) during the regular season before earning six more assists in the playoffs.

In the following year, Herrington continued to be a strong offensive presence for the Spruce Kings, putting together a 48-point (24G, 24A) regular season that resulted in him being recognized as his team's Most Valuable Player. His 24 goals would have him finish tied for the 14th most goals amongst all BCHL skaters on the season.

Herrington and the Lakers are set to kick off the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Michigan State.
