Mareks Mitens Named WCHA Goaltender of the Week

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Mareks Mitens has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week, as announced by conference officials on Monday, Nov. 23. 

WCHA Goaltender of the Week - Mareks Mitens 

Lake Superior State senior goaltender Mareks Mitens backstopped the Lakers in the team's first weekend of play. Mitens totaled 105:00 minutes in the LSSU net this weekend as he stopped all 28 shots he faced in the 0-0 tie on Saturday evening against Michigan Tech to earn his sixth career shutout. Mitens followed up with 13 saves in the game against the Huskies on Sunday as he played the first two periods for the Lakers. The Ventspils, Latvia native stopped 41 of the 42 shots he faced in his five periods of play. Mitens finished the weekend with a .976 save percentage and a 0.57 goals against average.

This is the third WCHA honor for Mitens, and the first of the 2020-21 season for the Laker goalie. 

The Lakers next game is set for Friday, Nov. 27 at home against the Ferris State Bulldogs at 7:07 p.m. followed by a Sunday road matchup against the Bulldogs at 3:07 p.m.

Even though spectators cannot currently attend games in Michigan, there are still a number of ways that fans will be able to follow the game action.
