Lakers Drop Opening Game to Bemidji State in WCHA Quarterfinals

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Lake Superior State hockey team fell in the first game of the best-of-three Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Quarterfinals by a score of 2-0 against the No. 10 Bemidji State Beavers on Friday, March 6 in Bemidji, Minn. at the Sanford Center.

The Beavers would score the game's opening goal at 3:07 of the first period when Adam Brady scored his 18th goal of the season for the home team. Following a scramble in front of Laker goaltender Mareks Mitens, the Beavers would gain possession of the loose puck. Brady, who was set up on the play by Aaron Miller, sent the puck behind Mitens for a 1-0 lead. 

At 4:21 of the second period, the Beavers doubled the score when Owen Sillinger scored following a cross ice pass as he was stationed back door on the play to tap the puck past Mitens for a 2-0 lead. 

The Lakers finished the game with 27 shots on goal as compared to Bemidji's 35 shots in the game. Mitens played well for the Lakers, despite the loss, as he stopped 33 shots by the Beavers, with a .943 save percentage in the game. Bemidji's Zach Driscoll recorded a shutout as he stopped all of the 27 shots he faced in the game. 

The Lakers and Beavers will match up again tomorrow Saturday, March 7 at 7:07 p.m. ET in the second game of WCHA Quarterfinals at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
