Lakers Split Road Trip with a 3-1 Win Against No. 17 Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State hockey team defeated the No. 17 Bowling Green Falcons by a score of 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Bowling Green, Ohio. With the win, the Lakers record improves to 5-11-0 overall and 3-6-0-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.  

The Lakers and the Falcons played a tight first period as the opening 20 minutes was scoreless between the two teams. 

In the second period, Pete Veillette netted his fourth goal of the season when he scored a power play goal at 10:25 of the frame to give the Lakers their first lead of the series. Hampus Eriksson assisted on the goal to extend his team-leading assist total to 11 and a team-high 13th point. 

Shortly after, the Falcons would tie the game when Connor Ford added a power play goal for Bowling Green at 11:41 of the second period to set the score at one apiece. 

At 4:17 of the third period, the Lakers would regain the lead when Alex Ambrosio scored his third goal of the season when he deflected a shot from defenseman Will Riedell to put the Lakers up by a score of 2-1. Ambrosio's goal was scored on the power play, giving the Lakers their second power play goal of the game. 

The Lakers clinched the win when senior forward Max Humitz tallied his 50th career goal as he scored an empty net goal to give the Lakers a two-goal cushion in the final seconds of play. 

The Lakers will continue WCHA play next weekend as they host Bemidji State for a weekend series at the Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The series is set for a 7:07 p.m. start on Friday, Nov. 29 and a 5:07 p.m. start on Saturday, Nov. 30. Friday's game will include the Black Friday Sale promotion - for more information, click here.
