Three Lakers Receive WCHA Player of the Week Honors

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Louis Boudon, Ashton Calder and Collin Saccoman have been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Players of the Week, as announced by conference officials on Monday, Nov. 4. 

Boudon earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors, Calder earned WCHA Forward of the Week honors and Saccoman earned WCHA Defenseman of the Week honors for their roles in Lake Superior State's weekend sweep over the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2. The Lakers opened the series with a 5-4 overtime win and capped off the weekend with a 4-3 victory on Saturday night against the Bulldogs. With the pair of conference wins, the Lakers overall record improves to 4-6-0 and a perfect 2-0-0-0 in the WCHA. 

WCHA Rookie of the Week - Louis Boudon

Freshman Louis Boudon helped lead Lake Superior State to a pair of wins over Ferris State this weekend with a total of four points in the series. Boudon recorded an assist in Friday's 5-4 overtime win against the Bulldogs, and followed up with a three-point game on Saturday to lead the Lakers to a 4-3 win over their conference opponent to clinch the weekend sweep. The Grenoble, France native had his first multi-point career game on Saturday as he netted the Lakers second goal of the game while also adding a pair of power play assists. The forward ranked tied for second among all WCHA players in points this weekend with four. Boudon is riding a five game point streak dating back to Oct. 19 and has seven points (3G, 4A) in that span. Among WCHA freshman, Boudon was tied for first place in both points and goal this week. Boudon is tied for second among WCHA freshmen in points this season as he has eight points through his first ten games. 

WCHA Forward of the Week - Ashton Calder

Sophomore Ashton Calder helped lead Lake Superior State to a pair of wins over Ferris State this weekend with a total of five points in the series. Calder led the Lakers in points during the team's two-game home series sweep against Ferris State with a pair of goals in Friday's 5-4 overtime win and three assists in Saturday's 4-3 win. Calder recorded two goals in the third period of the series opener, including a power play goal. In Saturday's game, the Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. native tallied two power play assists as well as the secondary assist on the game winning goal. Calder led all WCHA players in points this week and was tied for first among league players with three power play points. The sophomore forward is tied for the team-lead on the Lakers with 11 points in 10 games, and has notched points in seven of the ten games this season.

WCHA Defenseman of the Week - Collin Saccoman 

Senior Collin Saccoman helped lead Lake Superior State to a pair of wins over Ferris State this weekend with a total of four points in the series.  Saccoman led the team in goals during the team's two-game home series sweep over Ferris State with a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-4 overtime win and two power play goals in Saturday's 4-3 win. Saccoman scored a goal in Friday's game to put the Lakers ahead 3-2 and then contributed a power play assist to extend the Lakers lead to 4-3. In Saturday's game, Saccoman would score the game's first goal on the power play in the second period and would add his second power play goal of the night early in the third period to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead.The Stillwater, Minn. native led all WCHA players in goals this weekend with three, and was tied among his conference peers in power play goals with two. The Lakers captain leads all NCAA defensemen in goals with six, and has recorded three consecutive multi-point games (5G, 1A). 

This is the first WCHA honor for Boudon, and the first of the 2019-20 season for both Calder and Saccoman. In his rookie season in 2018-19, Calder earned WCHA Rookie of the Month honors twice as well as WCHA Rookie of the Week twice. Last season, Saccoman earned WCHA Defenseman of the Week on three occasions and was WCHA Defenseman of the Month twice.

Following last weekend's WCHA series, the Lakers will continue conference play on the road this weekend as they travel to Bemidji, Minn. to take on the Bemidji State Beavers. Friday's game is set for an 8:07 p.m. start while Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
