2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey student-athlete Nick Kossoff has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team for NCAA Division I, selected by CoSIDA.
As a First-Team Academic All-District® honoree, Kossoff advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Kossoff, who graduated this spring with a degree in kinesiology, finished his four years at Lake Superior State with a 3.96 cumulative GPA. He garnered a 4.0 GPA in five of his full-time semesters, including in his final semester. In addition, Kossoff is a three-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete, a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team selection, an eight-time Dean's List honoree and a 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award nominee. He also received the Cliff Everett Male Athlete Award and the Kiwanis Scholastic Award at this year's Anchor Awards, and he was named the LSSU hockey's 2018-19 Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.
On the ice, Kossoff had a career year in 2018-19 – playing to a 17-8-2 record with a 2.42 goals against average, .918 save percentage, 730 saves and one shutout. He helped Lake Superior State (23-13-2, 16-10-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) win both the Great Lakes Invitational and a WCHA Quarterfinals series for the first time in program history. He was named to the GLI All-Tournament Team and twice earned WCHA Goaltender of the Week honors in 2018-19.
Finishing his career with 27 wins, 1,868 saves, a .913 save percentage, 2.39 goals against average and five shutouts in 72 games played, Kossoff is the LSSU record holder for saves in a game (63, at Denver, Oct. 10, 2017). Kossoff is also the only netminder in program history to earn a shutout in his first-career appearance (4-0 win, vs. Northern Michigan, Oct. 17, 2015).
Following the 2018-19 season, Kossoff signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Manchester Monarchs (ECHL).
This season, the Lakers won their most games in a season since 1995-96, recorded their longest winning streak since 1996-97 (seven games), swept Ferris State in a road series for the first time since 1993-94, swept Michigan Tech in a series for the first time since 1983-84, won 16 WCHA Player of Week and six WCHA Player of the Month awards, had four All-WCHA Team selections, 14 WCHA All-Academic Team honorees, five WCHA Scholar-Athletes, a Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team selection, a Hockey Humanitarian Award nominee, two Hobey Baker Award nominees, claimed the first Great Lakes Invitational Championship in program history and captured their first-ever WCHA Playoffs series win.
