CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars of the American Hockey League have announced the signing of Diego Cuglietta to an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
Cuglietta (25-16--41), a senior from Kamloops, British Columbia, tallied 50 goals and 50 assists for 100 career points in 147 games at Lake Superior State (23-13-2). This season, Cuglietta leads NCAA Division I Men's Hockey in goals scored (25), while ranking second in faceoff wins (501). He set career highs in goals and points (41) in 2018-19, while also tying his career high in assists (16). In addition, he led the Lakers with a +24 rating this season.
A team captain, Cuglietta earned First Team All-WCHA honors, was a WCHA All-Academic Team selection, was named the Great Lakes Invitational MVP, garnered NCAA Third Star of the Week honors and was named a WCHA Forward of the Week during the 2018-19 season. He is also a nominee for the 2019 Hobey Baker Award.
Cuglietta finished his Laker career in a three-way tie with Bobby Ciotti and Doug Weight for the 27th-most goals scored in program history. His 41 points in 2018-19 were the most by a Laker in a season since Joe Blaznek and Jason Sessa tallied 46 and 44 points, respectively, in 1996-97. Cuglietta is the first Laker to reach 100 career points since Domenic Monardo (49-52--101), who was a Laker from 2009 to 2013. Cuglietta's 25 goals scored are the most in a season for the Lakers since Sean Tallaire netted 32 goals in 1995-96.

This season, the Lakers won their most games in a season since 1995-96, recorded the longest winning streak since 1996-97 (seven games), swept Ferris State in a road series for the first time since 1993-94, swept Michigan Tech in a series for the first time since 1983-84, won 16 WCHA Player of Week and five WCHA Player of the Month awards, have two Hobey Baker Award nominees, claimed the first Great Lakes Invitational Championship in program history and captured their first-ever WCHA Playoffs series win.
