Cuglietta Named Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week

Diego Cuglietta is the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey student-athlete Diego Cuglietta has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Monday.

Cuglietta (25-16--41), a senior from Kamloops, British Columbia who is majoring in history, scored his NCAA-leading 25th goal of the season in the WCHA Semifinals against No. 2/3 Minnesota State on Friday night at Verizon Center in Mankato, Minnesota. In addition, it was his 50th career goal and 100th career point.

Cuglietta is the first Laker to record 100 career points since Domenic Monardo (49-52--101), who was a Laker from 2009 to 2013. He also scored the most goals in a season for the Lakers since Sean Tallaire netted 32 goals in 1995-96. In addition, Cuglietta's 50 career goals places him into a three-way tie with Bobby Ciotti and Doug Weight for the 27th-most goals scored in program history. His 41 points this season were the most by a Laker in a season since Joe Blaznek and Jason Sessa tallied 46 and 44 points, respectively, in 1996-97.

It is the first time that Cuglietta, a 2019 Hobey Baker Award nominee, has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week
