Lakers Move Up to No. 18 in USCHO Poll

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey moved up one spot to No. 18 in the most recent edition of the USCHO.com Men's Top 20 Poll, as announced on Monday. 

Lake Superior State (20-8-2), which was previously ranked No. 19, earned 183 voting points to move up to No. 18 in the poll. The Lakers, who are on a four-game winning streak, swept Michigan Tech in a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series over the weekend at Taffy Abel Arena. 

The Lakers defeated the Huskies 3-1 on both Friday and Saturday. Lake Superior State swept Michigan Tech for the first time since 1983-84 and reached 20 wins in a season for the first time since 2006-07. 

The Lakers have now been ranked in the top 20 for seven consecutive USCHO polls, dating back to Jan. 7.

Also representing the WCHA in the polls are Minnesota State (No. 4) and Bowling Green (No. 15).

The Lakers return to WCHA action on the road next weekend, facing Northern Michigan on Friday and Saturday in Marquette, Michigan. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.

The Lakers return home for their final regular-season home series when they host Ferris State on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2. The team's seniors will be honored with a ceremony on Saturday as part of Senior Night. Tickets may be purchased at the Norris Center Ticket Office or online.
