Lakers Stay at No. 18 in USCHO Poll

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey stayed at No. 18 in the most recent edition of the USCHO.com Men's Top 20 Poll, as announced on Monday.

Lake Superior State (15-7-2) received 179 voting points to remain at No. 18 for the third consecutive week. The Lakers went 1-1-0 at then-No. 6/7 Minnesota State over the weekend at Verizon Center in Mankato, Minn. The Lakers dropped the series opener 5-3 before bouncing back for a 1-0 win on Saturday night.

In the 1-0 win, sophomore netminder Mareks Mitens (4-4) who is the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, made 29 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and freshman forward Pete Veillette scored the only goal of the game at 8:05 of the first period. 

The Lakers return home for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against Bemidji State on Friday and Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena. Both games are slated for 7 p.m. The radio broadcast will be on 99.5 Yes FM and the series will be streamed on FloHockey.TV.

On Friday, Laker Hockey will host the ninth annual 'White Out' domestic and sexual violence awareness night, in partnership with the Diane Peppler Center and the Sexual Violence Prevention Team of the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The first 1,000 fans to enter Taffy Abel Arena will receive a free shirt to wear at the game. Tickets may be purchased at the Norris Center Ticket Office or online.
