Lakers Ranked No. 18 in USCHO Poll

Senior center Diego Cuglietta is second in the nation in goals scored with 15

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State Hockey moved into the USCHO.com Men's Top 20 Poll at No. 18, as announced on Monday.

Lake Superior State (13-6-1), which was previously receiving votes in the USCHO Poll, moved into the poll at No. 18 with 132 voting points after winning its last six games, including wins over Michigan State (4-3 OT, GLI Semifinals) and Michigan Tech (6-3, GLI Championship Game) in the 54th Great Lakes Invitational as the Lakers won the GLI for the first time in program history. Most recently, Lake State swept a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at Alaska Anchorage – winning 5-2 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday.

The Lakers' six-game winning streak is the longest such streak for the Lakers since the 2009-10 season when they won six consecutive games from Dec. 4 to Jan. 3.

During their six-game winning streak, senior center Diego Cuglietta (15-6--21) has tallied eight goals and two assists for 10 points. Cuglietta, who was named the GLI Most Valuable Player, is second in the nation in goals scored this season – trailing only Arizona State's Johnny Walker (18-8--26).

The Lakers were last ranked in the USCHO poll on Nov. 26 when they were ranked No. 20.
