ANCHORAGE, Alaska. – Lake Superior State hockey extended its winning streak to five games with a 5-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win at Alaska Anchorage on Friday night at Sullivan Arena.

Lake Superior State (12-6-1, 7-5-1-0 WCHA), which has an NCAA Division I best 10-1-0 record combined between road and neutral-site games this season, jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Alaska Anchorage (2-16-1, 1-11-1-0 WCHA) in the first period of play.

Sophomore defenseman Will Riedell scored his third goal of the season at 7:23 of the first period with sophomore center Hampus Eriksson and sophomore defenseman Lukas Kaelble assisting on the play. Just over three and a half minutes later, senior winger Gage Torrel scored his third goal of the season to make the score 2-0. Kaelble tallied his second assist of the game on the play.

The Lakers increased their lead to 3-0 as they scored the only goal of the second period. Freshman winger Pete Veillette garnered his first collegiate goal, assisted by Eriksson and junior defenseman Collin Saccoman, the reigning WCHA Defenseman of the Month, at the 1:19 mark.

In the third period, each team scored twice to make the final score 5-2 in favor of Lake Superior State. The Seawolves got on the scoreboard at 6:48 of the period on a goal scored by Jared Nash that made the score 3-1.

However, the Lakers answered back. Right after Nash's goal, the Lakers went on a five-minute power play and junior winger Bryan Basilico scored his second goal of the season, towards the end of the power play, at the 11:18 mark to make the score 4-1. Kaelble tallied his third assist of the game and team-leading 16th of the season, while Eriksson garnered his third assist of the evening and ninth of the season.

The Seawolves' Jeremiah Luedtke cut the Laker lead to two goals with the score 4-2 as he scored a power-play marker at 16:42. However, the Lakers held off the Seawolves and senior center Diego Cuglietta added an empty-net goal, assisted by freshman winger Ashton Calder, at 18:17 to make the final score 5-2. Cuglietta, who entered the night leading the WCHA in goals scored, has scored a career-high 14 goals this season. His previous high was 12, which he achieved in 2016-17.
