Gelsinger Named WCHA Co-Forward of the Week

Brayden Gelsinger

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Brayden Gelsinger has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Co-Forward of the Week, as announced by conference officials on Monday.

A junior winger from Regina, Sask. who is majoring in business administration, Gelsinger earned WCHA Co-Forward of the Week honors after tallying five points on three goals and two assists as Lake Superior State (9-6-1, 6-5-1-0 WCHA) swept Alaska in a two-game WCHA series on Friday and Saturday at Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska.

In Saturday's 5-2 win, Gelsinger garnered his first collegiate hat trick, one assist, a career-high four points and two power-play goals. Gelsinger's first goal, which was the game winner and came on the power play, broke a 2-2 tie at 4:57 of the second period. He then scored his second power-play goal less than two minutes later (6:35). His third goal of the evening was an empty-net goal that was scored at 17:56 of the third period. In addition, Gelsinger also recorded an assist on the Lakers' second goal of the game – scored by junior forward Max Humitz at 9:49 of the first period. Gelsinger's two power-play markers were part of a Laker power-play unit that started Saturday's game 4-of-4 and finished the contest 4-of-6.

In addition to his performance on Saturday, Gelsinger also garnered an assist in Friday night's 4-1 win over the Nanooks. His five points, two power-play goals, three power-play points and one game-winning goal each tied for the WCHA lead last week.

This is the first time that Gelsinger has earned a WCHA weekly award.
