Lakers Season Comes to an End with Loss at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.—The Lake Superior State Hockey team saw its 2017-18 season come to an end Saturday evening falling to Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival Ferris State, 4-2, inside the Bulldogs' Ewigleben Ice Arena.

With the loss, LSSU officially falls out of WCHA Tournament contention finishing ninth in the league standings with 27 points.

The Lakers finish the year with a 10-22-4 record overall and a 8-17-3 mark in league competition. The Bulldogs finish the regular season 14-21-1, 11-16-1.

Lake State got on the board first when sophomore defenseman Collin Saccoman scored his first goal of the season on assists from Bryan Basilico and Brayden Gelsinger at the 5:07 mark in the first period.

Ferris knotted the score, 1-1, 3:43 into the second on a goal from Coale Norris. Norris extend the lead with another goal at the 7:37 mark of the third period.

The Bulldogs added two empty net goals from Mitch Maloney in the final two minutes of play. Gage Torrel (5) scored a shorthanded goal for LSSU in the final seconds of regulation.

The Lakers were outshot, 38-33, in the contest and came up empty their only power play opportunity. The LSSU penalty was 4-of-4 on the night.

Season tickets for the 2018-19 Laker hockey season will be made available in early March.
