BEMIDJI, Minn.— After posting a 2-0 shutout victory in Friday's opener, the Lake Superior State hockey team earned its first series sweep of the season Saturday evening with an identical, 2-0, win over Bemidji State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association clash inside the Beavers' Sanford Center.

With the win, Lake State improves to 8-20-4 overall on the season, 6-15-3 in league action,  and finish the weekend with a much needed six WCHA points. The Beavers slip to 14-10-6, 11-7-4.

After a scoreless first period, sophomore forward Max Humitz lit the lamps at the 1:14 mark in the second for his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Colin Saccoman recorded an assist (4) on the play along with Yuki Miura, his first as a Laker.

With 9:52 left in regulation, Aaron Miller seemed to have drawn the Beavers even (1-1) on a power play but it was deemed a no-goal after official review the keep the momentum in the Lakers favor.

Junior forward Diego Cuglietta delivered the knockout blow when he scored and empty net power play goal (7) with 22 seconds left on the clock.

Freshman goaltender Makeks Mitens turned in his best performance of his young career Saturday evening turning aside all 36 shots faced for his first-career shutout win.

The Lakers were outshot, 36-17, in the contest and went 1-of-4 on power play chances. The LSSU penalty kill was a perfect 5-of-5 on the night.

Lake Superior will look to carry their momentum with them to Alaska Anchorage next weekend as they take on the Sea Wolves in a two-game WCHA set.
