Lakers Fall to No.15 Bowling Green in Final Home Game

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— After surrendering three first period goals, the Lake Superior State hockey team fell short in its comeback bid falling to No.15-ranked Bowling Green in the finale of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series inside Taffy Abel Arena.
 
With the loss the, The Lakers drop to 6-20-4 overall and 4-15-3 in league action. The Falcons improve to 15-8-6, 12-4-5.

After Tyler Spezia's goals and Mitch McLain's solo goal staked the Falcons to a 3-0 lead in the first, the Lakers bounced back at the 10:25 mark in the second when Freshman forward Hampus Erikkson scored on an assist from Gage Torrel.

Torrell drew Lake State to within one when he scored shorthanded for his fourth goal of the season on a Diego Cuglietta assist at the 12:31 mark in the second.

Freshman Mareks Mitens got the nod in the net for Lake Superior and lasted just 8:57 allowing two goals on six shots faced. Nick Kossoff allowed one goal and turned away 27 shots in relief.

Freshman forward Yuki Miura made his Laker debut in the loss and seniors J.T. Henke, Kyle Chatham, Ryan Renz and Aidan Wright were honored pregame as they skated for the final time in Taffy Abel.

The Lakers were outshot, 36-19, in the contest and went 0-3 on power play opportunities. BGSU was 1-of-3 with the man advantage.

The Lakers will play their final six game of the regular season on the road beginning next weekend at Bemidji State (Feb.2-3).
