Lakers Shutout by Ferris State in Series Opener

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— The Lake Superior State hockey team couldn't generate any offense Friday night as it was shutout by Ferris State, 4-0, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association tilt inside Taffy Abel Arena.

The Lakers drop to 5-16-4 overall and 3-11-3 in the WCHA with the loss. The Bulldogs move to 10-14-1, 7-9-1.

"Not good enough offensively, not good enough defensively. You're not going to win a hockey game playing like we did," said Lake Superior coach Damon Whitten. "Our best players have to be able to find a way to impact the game."

Ferris got on the board at the 8:09 mark in the first period with a goal from Marshall Moise. Jason Tackett and Lucas Finner added two in the second and Joe Rutowski sealed it with a power play goal 8:24 into the third.

Freshman goaltender Mareks Mitens took the loss for Lake State surrendering three goals in 23 minutes before be spelled by Nick Kossoff in the second. Kossoff finished with one goal allowed and made 11 stops to finish off the night.

Lake Superior outshot Ferris State, 27-25, in the loss but struggled on the faceoff surrendering, 42-28 advantage. LSSU finished 0-5 on the power play while FSU was 1-of-4.
