Lakers Host Rival Ferris State for WCHA Series

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— The Lake Superior State hockey team welcomes in rival Ferris State to Taffy Abel this weekend for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. Puck drop is slated for 7:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The Lakers enter this weekend with 5-15-4 record overall this season and a 3-10-3 mark in the WCHA. The Bulldogs are 9-14-1, 6-9-1.

Last Time Out:
LSSU suffered a home series sweep to Bemidji State Last weekend falling, 3-0, in Friday's opener and, 6-3, in Saturday's finale.

Junior forward Jacob Hand registered two goals in the loss and sophomore Max Humitz scored his team-leading 10th goal of the year.

Scouting the Bulldogs:
FSU is also coming off a pair of home losses to No.19 Bowling Green falling 6-3 in on the opener before being blanked, 3-0, in the finale.

Forward Corey Mackin paces the Bulldogs offense with 18 points on the season. Mitch Maloney leads the team with 12 goals.

Sophomore goaltender Justin Kapelmaster leads the team in the net with 373 saves and a .910 save percentage on the year.

Laker Leaders:
J.T. Henke has been Lake State's offensive catalyst this season with a team-leading 23 points so far. Henke's 17 points in WCHA play ranks No.7 in the conference.

Humitz has been the leading goal scorer for the Lakers so far with 10 total goals (6 in the WCHA). Henke and Anthony Nellis share second place with seven goals on the year.

Junior Nick Kossoff has been the leader in between the pipes this season owning a 4-8-2 record with 481 saves for a .909 percentage.

On The Horizon:
After this weekend's series, Lake Superior head to Marquette, Mich., as they take on rival Northern Michigan. The Lakers return to Taffy Abel Jan.26-27 as they wrap up their 2017-18 home schedule with a conference series against Bowling Green.
