Lakers Blanked by RMU in Classic opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa.— The Lake Superior State hockey team was blanked, 5-0, by non-conference Robert Morris Friday evening in the opening round of the Three Rivers Classic at PPG Paints Arena.

With the loss, the Lakers slip to 4-13-4 overall on the season. The Colonials improve to 8-11-1.

Lake State fell behind early in the contest allowing three first-period goals and were outshot 17-4 in the period. Timmy Moore, Alex Tonge and Brady Ferguson were among those to score goals in the first 20 minutes for RMU.

Junior Nick Kossoff spelled starter Mareks Mitens to begin the second period and allowed two goals on 21 shots faced in two periods of action. Nick Jenny and Luke Lynch scored the other Colonial goals.

The Lakers were outshot 38-19 in the loss went 0-4 on their power play opportunities. Robert Morris went 1-of-9 with the man advantage.

LSSU will look to bounce back tomorrow as they take on Arizona State in the consolation game at 4:30 p.m. The Sun Devils fell to No.11 Providence, 6-0, in their opening matchup.

Lake State will return to Taffy Abel Arena for the new year as they play host to Bemdiji State Jan.5-6 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. Tickets are available at the Norris Center Ticket Office or online at lssulakers.com/tickets.
