LSSU Hockey Plays BGSU to a 2-2 Tie

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. —The Lake Superior State hockey team took Bowling Green State to a, 2-2, tie Friday evening in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association Clash. The Falcons earned the extra point in 3x3 shootout after regulation.

The Lakers move to 2-6-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the WCHA with the tie. BGSU goes to 4-3-3, 3-1-3-2.

Bowling Green struck first at the 17:44 mark in the first on a goal Max Johnson. The Lakers answered back in the first minute of the second period with a power-play goal from senior forward J.T. Henke (4).

The Falcons climbed back in front at the 6:08 mark with a goal from Brandon Kruse. LSSU knotted the game back up at two when senior forward Anthony Nellis found the back of the net at the 8:57 mark in the third.

The Lakers were outshot heavily in the contest with Bowling Green holding a, 44-23, advantage in that regard. The Falcons also won the faceoff battle, 43-32.

Lake State was 1-of-5 with the man advantage on the night. BGSU went 0-for-4 on their power play opportunities.

Junior Goaltender Nick Kossoff had another solid night in between the cross bars allowing just two goals on 42 shots faced for a .955 save percentage.

Junior forward Jake Hand tallied one assist on the night. Henke nothced an assist on the third period Nellis goal.

The Lakers wrap up their weekend series with the Falcons tomorrow at 7:37 p.m. at Slater Family Ice Area.
