BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced their Players of the Week for games of October 20th and 21st.  For the second straight week, the Lake Superior State Lakers had an honoree, with goaltender Nick Kossoff being named WCHA Goaltender of the Week.

Kossoff, a junior from West Des Moines, Iowa, made only one start over the weekend, but made himself heard throughout college hockey, as his 63 saves on 66 shots – a .955 save percentage – set a school record, surpassing the 60 save mark set in 2003 by Matt Violin.  The 63 saves is the 10th most ever for a WCHA goaltender.

Taking on the top-ranked Denver Pioneers on the road, Kossoff made several timely saves to keep his team in the game, with the offensive pressure increasing each period.  The Pioneers tallied 17 shots in the first period, 18 in the second, and 26 in the third, plus two in overtime.

With the league introducing a weekly award exclusively aimed at netminders at the beginning of the season, Kossoff became the first Laker to win the award.

To win his first WCHA weekly award, Kossoff beat out Ferris State's Darren Smith, Alaska's Anton Martinsson and Jordan Uhelski of Alabama-Huntsville.

Kossoff is the second Laker to receive weekly honors this season.  Forward J.T. Henke was the first recipient for Lake Superior this season for the week of October 11th thru the 14th.

The other winners of the weekly awards were Alaska sophomore Colton Leiter (Offensive), Alabama-Huntsville junior Kurt Gosselin (Defensive) and Alaska forward Steven Jandric (Rookie).
