LSSU's Henke receives WCHA Player of the Week honors

Henke earn WCHA player of the week

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced their Players of the Week for games of October 10th thru the 14th.  Among the honorees was Lake Superior senior J.T. Henke, who earned Offensive Player of the Week.

Henke scored one goal and four assists in the weekend series against Michigan Tech.  On Friday, he had an assist on all three Laker goals in a 4-3 loss to the Huskies, who came in ranked 13th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll.

On Saturday, Henke scored the first goal of the game and later assisted on Anthony Nellis' game tying goal in the third period.  Henke factored into all five goals scored by the Lakers on the weekend, and finished +3.

With six points on the young season, Henke currently is tied for 11th nationally.  In the WCHA, his five points in conference games – all coming this past weekend – have him at the top of the league in scoring.

This is the first time Henke has received weekly WCHA accolades in his Laker career.  The other nominees for Offensive Player of the Week include Bemidji State's Gerry Fitzgerald, Alaska's Kylar Hope, Minnesota State's Zeb Knutson and Michigan Tech's Gavin Gould.

Among the nominees for other Player of the Week positions was Lake Superior freshman goaltender Mareks Mitens.  Mitens, who made 40 saves in his college hockey debut, was nominated for Rookie of the Week.

The other award winners this week are Minnesota State junior Daniel Brickley (Defensive), Bemidji State senior Michael Bitzer (Goaltender) and Bowling Green freshman forward Cameron Wright (Rookie).
