Morgan tabbed as WCHA Rookie of the Week

EDINA, Minn. - Lake Superior State freshman forward Luke Morgan has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week after picking up four assists in last weekend's series sweep against Alabama-Huntsville.

A native of Brighton, Michigan, Morgan opened the weekend with two assists and a +1 rating in the Lakers' thrilling 5-4 victory over the Chargers Friday night. Morgan finished with two shots on goal and snapped a three-game scoreless drought in the process.

On Saturday, Morgan continued his point production with two more assists, including the helper on the game-winning goal as the Lakers capped a weekend sweep with a 4-1 victory. Morgan again registered two shots on goal and was a +2 in the series finale.

With four points on the weekend, Morgan led WCHA rookies in scoring and tied for second overall while helping the Lakers jump from eighth-place up to fifth in the WCHA standings.

Morgan currently sits tied for fifth on the Lakers and tied for third among WCHA rookies with 16 points on four goals and 12 assists this season.

Sophomore Mitch Hults was also recognized as an honorable mention for Offensive Player of the Week after registering two goals on Friday, including the game-winner, and two assists in Saturday's game.

This marks the second time this season that Morgan has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week and the second consecutive week a Lakers player won the award after fellow freshman forward Max Humitz was named Co-WCHA Rookie of the Week last week.
