LSSU forward Max Humitz named WCHA Co-Rookie of the Week

EDINA, Minn. - Lake Superior State freshman forward Max Humitz has been named the Co-Rookie of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, sharing the honor with Northern Michigan's freshman defenseman Rylan Yaremko.

Humitz, a native of Livonia, Michigan, scored both goals for the Lakers (9-12-3, 6-9-3 WCHA) during a pair of 1-1 ties against the Wildcats last weekend. Both tallies by Humitz came on the power play, the most of any WCHA player on the weekend and tying for the nation's lead in power-play goals.

Among WCHA freshmen, Humitz tied for the league-lead with Yaremko and four others with two points on the weekend and his two goals were the most among league rookies.

Humitz's 11 goals this season leads the Lakers, ranks tied for the WCHA lead and ties him for third nationally among freshman skaters. His 11 goals also ranks tied for fourth overall among WCHA players and his six power-play goals is tied for the league-lead.

Junior goaltender Gordon Defiel also received an honorable mention for the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after backstopping the Lakers with 60 saves on 62 shots last weekend. The Stillwater, Minnesota, native led the WCHA with a .968 save percentage for the weekend and tied for the league-lead with a .92 goals-against average.

The Lakers host Alabama-Huntsville this weekend in a two-game series beginning Friday night at 7:37 p.m. and concluding with Saturday's game slated for 7:07 p.m.
