Morgan claims WCHA Rookie of the Week honors

EDINA, Minn.- Lake Superior State freshman forward Luke Morgan has been named Rookie of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association after scoring the game-winning goal to help Lake Superior State to a road split against Michigan last weekend.

Morgan, a native of Brighton, Mich., put the Lakers (7-7-0, 4-6-0 WCHA) ahead 2-1 with 2:57 remaining in regulation on Friday evening. His go-ahead tally would stand as the game-winning goal over the then-No.16 ranked Wolverines. Morgan also earned a +1 rating, blocked a shot and went without committing a penalty on the weekend.

In 14 games to open his collegiate career, Morgan has accumulated two goals and six assists, as well as a +4 rating. This is Morgan's first career WCHA weekly award.

Sophomore forward Diego Cuglietta and freshman defenseman Collin Saccoman also received honorable mentions for weekly awards. Cuglietta was an honorable mention for Offensive Player of the Week after leading the WCHA in points with three assists on the weekend and Saccoman earned a nod for Defensive Player of the Week after a league-leading 10 blocked shots in the series against Michigan.

The Lakers return home for the first time in a month to face Bowling Green this Friday at 7:37 p.m. and Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
