Lakers shut out, swept at home against Chargers

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State fell to Alabama-Huntsville 5-0 on Saturday night in the second game of the weekend's Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. The Lakers (2-6-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) outshot 31-19 but were unable to get on the scoreboard.

Matt Larose (1-0-0) got the start in net for UAH, his first of the season, and picked up the shutout to earn the win.

Nick Kossoff (1-2-0) started in net for the Lakers. The freshman netminder was tagged for five goals and made 14 saves.

The Chargers got goals from Cody Marooney, Brandon Carlson, Chad Brears, Adam Wilcox and Tyler Poulsen. The visiting Chargers scored a goal in the first period, three goals in the second period and added the final marker late in the third period.

The Lakers were unsuccessful on five power-play chances, while the Chargers scored on one of their seven opportunities.

Jack Prince and Kurt Gosselin each contributed a pair of assists to lead UAH. Poulsen and Wilcox were the other Chargers to pick up two points, each adding assists along with their goals.

The Lakers head to Bowling Green next weekend in search for their first WCHA wins of the season. The Lakers and Falcons will play Nov. 6-7 at BGSU Ice Arena.
