Laker Golf Competes at Klash in Kentucky

PERRY PARK, Ky. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's golf teams competed at the 2024 Klash in Kentucky over the weekend.

Women

On the women's side, Lekisha Sasitharan (Shah Alam, Malaysia) led the way for the Lakers, finishing with a two-day total of 157 (80, 77) which placed her tied for fifth overall on the individual leaderboard. Keira Cotter (Etobicoke, Ont.) had the second best showing for LSSU with a two-day total of 171 (84, 87), and junior Jesse Hellebuyck (Almont, Mich.) finished the second day with a two-round total score of 175 (89, 86). Mackenzie Davidson (Montague, Mich.) came away with the best improvement in the second round, completing the second set of 18 holes in 11 fewer shots to finish with a total score of 181 (96, 85). Marie Mathieu (Marshall, Mich.) and Natalie Kellogg would then round out the lineup for the Lakers with respective totals of 182 and 184.

Men

The Lakers were once again led by Charley Stephen (Oshawa, Ont.) who led all of his teammates with a two-day total of 156 strokes (79, 77) after improving by two shots on the second round. First-year player Yongbo Guan (Qingdao, China) would then produce the second best performance with a four stroke improvement on the second day of action to finish with a total of 160 (82, 78), and Jackson Theiler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was not far behind, using a two-stroke improvement of his own to finish all 36 holes in 162 shots (82, 80). Meanwhile, Charles Johnson (Green Bay, Wis.) finished the second day with a total score of 167 (84, 83), and Collin Pajot (Brighton, Mich.) rounded out the men's lineup with a score of 176 (92, 84).

The men's team will next return to action on Thursday, April 4 for the Bill Blazer Memorial while the women's team next competes at the NC4K Classic on Sunday, April 7 with both events being hosted by Ohio Dominican University.
